Posted on December 26, 2022 by Creatrix

Hannah Arendt is still smokingThe next reading is a chapter by the philosopher Hannah Arendt, who escaped Nazi persecution by fleeing from Germany to the United States. This essay contains her most valuable analysis on power, and she breaks down the differences between power, strength, force, authority, and lastly, violence.

Optional Follow Up Reading – Aestheticizing Revolution by Allan Antliff

Posted on December 19, 2022 by Creatrix

Civilization by Robert Minor, 1915We are taking a break over the holidays but wanted to provide a follow up reading to Against the Logic of the Guillotine that provides further insight into anarchist critiques of the Bolshevik coup in 1917. This chapter, “Aestheticizing Revolution” by Allan Antliff, distinguishes the authoritarian violence of the Bolsheviks from anarchist conceptions of revolutionary violence. It was published in 2017 in the critical anthology, Anarchism 1914-1918: Internationalism, Anti-Militarism, and War (Ruth Kinna and Matthew Adams, eds.).
